Rewiring & New Wiring
Got an older house with an out-of-date electrical system? Do you have a modern electrical system, but your circuit breaker trips constantly because it doesn’t have enough power to run all your appliances and electronics?
You may want or need wiring or rewiring services. You may also consider those services if you want to add a new outlet, add new ceiling lights, add a GFCI to your kitchen, bath, or outdoor areas, or add a dedicated appliance circuit.

Signs your home may need rewiring soon
Tripped circuit breakers aren’t the only signs of a wiring problem. Other signs includes
- Electric shocks. They aren’t normal. They’re a sign something has gone wrong.
- Discolored outlets.
- A persistent burning smell.
- Flickering lights or brownouts.
- Warm cover plates or switches.
You should prioritize wiring repairs if your house has aluminum wiring. That’s a fire hazard, because aluminum wiring is prone to overheating. If you aren’t sure, we can always check.
You might also take a glance at your home inspector’s report, if you received one when you bought your home. Those reports mention the type of electrical system you have.
Two-pronged outlets?
Two-pronged outlets are a sign of an older electrical system. In the early days of electric wiring plugs did not come with a grounding prong.
These outlets won’t accommodate most modern electronics. Though you can buy adapters from the hardware store, those aren’t the safest choice. They’ll allow your three-prong device to fit the two-prong plug, but they won’t ground that device properly. That’s OK for smaller electronics, like a small stereo or a cake mixer, but it’s not good for televisions, or computers, or any other large electronics. You’ll need to get the house rewired to equip it with new, grounded outlets.
Need more power?
If your electrical system can’t keep up with your current electrical use you may want to see about a panel upgrade, and maybe some upgrades to your meters or circuit boxes as well.
What you can’t do is ignore it. Continuing to push your system past its limits will have consequences for your electronics, your home, and maybe for your family, too.
