Jacuzzi, Spa & Hot Tub Installation San Diego
A Jacuzzi or spa can add some “home away from home” to your home. But only if you can get it installed safely and correctly.
Some hot tub retailers will try to talk you into their products by claiming that you can safely plug their product into any old outlet in your home. Nothing could be further from the truth. Most Jacuzzis require a hardwired connection. We’ll probably need to run wiring back to the house. It may be best to put that wiring underground, so you don’t have to look at it. That’s not invasive surgery for licensed, experienced, professional electricians like us, but a weekend do-it-yourself project it is not.
Some companies offer installation, but what they don’t tell you is that an “installer” is not necessarily an electrician. Some are more professional and knowledgeable than others, but you’re still vulnerable to the luck of the draw. The installer may not be on the lookout for issues that can cause your hot tub to short out your entire electrical system, for example. An installer may know the wiring of the tub, but not the wiring of your home.
When you go to a licensed, professional electrician you eliminate all those worries. You will have the peace of mind that comes from knowing your jacuzzi or spa will always work as it should. You’ll protect your investment, and you’ll protect the electrical system in your home.

Jacuzzi installations require a lot of electrical work.
In addition to running all this wiring, our team will typically need to take a look at your main panel. Not all homes have enough power on the main service panel to run a hot tub safely. You’ll need to have at least two additional open circuit breakers to accommodate the jacuzzi’s needs. California electrical code requires us to accommodate this need by adding a sub-panel that must be 5 feet away from the jacuzzi. It has to be placed somewhere that it can be seen from the tub.
The circuit breaker will also need to be a GFCI circuit breaker. Since we’re dealing with water we’ll need to add a dedicated outdoor GFCI outlet as well.
Your panel itself also needs to be an 150 or 200 amp panel. If you live in an older home there’s a good chance we’ll need to upgrade regardless of the number of circuit breakers you have free, as older homes typically only have an 100 amp panel.
Finally, the jacuzzi must be on its own dedicated appliance circuit which we will build for you.
Jacuzzi installations require expertise
Did you know that the wiring needs change for each make and model of hot tub? Make sure you keep your owner’s manual handy so we can check out the manufacturer’s recommendations.
It’s even a good idea to call us before you get your heart set on the spa’s location. We can offer insight into the location. There may be other spots that are more feasible and which may save you a little money on labor and materials because they’re closer to the panel.
