Home Remodel & Renovation Electricians in San Diego
It’s exciting to add a new room to your home. You vastly increase the home value by increasing the square footage, often by adding or enlarging the bedroom and/or bathroom space. You also get to meet your needs while staying in place.
The new room will need electrical wiring, and that’s where we come in. The team at Premo Electric has helped hundreds of San Diego homeowners complete their renovations with ease.
Which electrical work will you need during your remodel or renovation?
Most home remodels and renovations will require the following electrical work:
- Panel upgrades
- Installing or replacing wiring
- Installing or moving outlets
- Installing, moving, or replacing junction boxes
- Adding dedicated circuits
- Installing appliance receptacles
- Code (NEC) corrections
We’ll give you the list of specific work we’ll probably need to perform when we visit your home and give you a quote. Many homeowners fail to consider certain items.
Panel upgrades
Panel upgrades are especially important because increasing your home size usually means increasing the daily power demand in your home. Failing to do that can cause nuisances like repeated circuit breaker trips. It can also cause the panel to overheat, which can lead to a fire.
Installing or replacing wiring & outlets
All renovations will require new wiring and outlets so the new room can have power. This is also a good time to examine your whole house wiring system to ensure it’s up to code. If it isn’t, you’ll want to replace it so the updated home does not become a fire hazard.
Moving or adding junction boxes
Junction boxes allow you to hang light fixtures, ceiling outlets (like in the basement), and more. Sometimes renovating means moving junctions around existing rooms to get lights into a more advantageous place. You’ll also need new junctions in the new room(s). Old junction boxes often are damaged, too small, or not grounded at all or properly, so we may need to replace those junctions anyway.
Many of our customers take advantage of this time to update their lighting all over the house. If you want to add track lighting, recessed lighting, dimmers, timed / smart switches, or outlets, now is a great time to do so.
Adding dedicated circuits
You’ll need a dedicated appliance circuit if you plan to add an additional kitchen to your home, because you’ll need them for ovens, fridges, microwaves, stoves, freezers, dishwashers, garbage disposals, and similar appliances. If you’re adding a new laundry room you’ll need one for your washer and / or dryer.
Dedicated circuits ensure all those expensive appliances draw the right amount of current. If you try to plug these appliances into a regular outlet you’ll blow fuses, overheat your wires, and risk electrical fires. You’ll also risk ruining the appliances. While we’re at it, we’ll usually need to install new receptacles, into which you’d plug a dryer or range.
