CO2 Detector Installation
You already know carbon monoxide is a silent killer that can threaten your home and family. You probably at least have a few appliances that use natural gas, making CO2 a risk.
Here in San Diego it’s common go see gas-powered heaters and water heaters. Occasionally we’ll see gas-powered stoves, too.
Because it’s colorless and odorless it’s impossible to know when CO2 is building up inside. It takes more than a gas leak: Your home also can contain dangerous amounts of CO2 if certain appliances have broken components. For example, you could be in danger if your heater has a cracked heating element. The kicker is that the appliance may still function, making it harder to know there’s a problem with the unit, let alone that it’s belching out CO2.
That’s probably why CO2 sends over 20,000 people to the ER every year and kills at least 400 people a year.
Battery-operated CO2 detectors don’t provide enough protection
Batteries run out of power. Sure, your battery-operated CO2 detector starts to beep or chirp whenever the power gets low. But because human nature is what it is, you’re far more likely to unplug the device than you are to immediately jump up and replace the batteries.
Chances are you’ll forget. C02 doesn’t feel much like an immediate threat, and you’ve got a thousand other problems tugging on your attention and resources.
A wired-in CO2 detector doesn’t require you to do anything. It gets power 24/7, 365.
Do you have enough CO2 detectors, and are they installed in the right places?
Most people who buy battery-operated CO2 detectors have just one of them, which they place in the hallway.
One CO2 detector isn’t enough coverage. You need one near the entrance to every bedroom. It needs to be mounted at the level of a sleeping person’s mouth and nose. Do that and you can rest easy knowing the CO2 alarm will go off whenever there’s a problem. You should also put one near every appliance that uses CO2. You might need one in your basement and one in your utility room.
By the way if you run an Airbnb you should consider that type of installation so your accommodations are as safe as modern hotels.
CO2 detector installation is so inexpensive it should be a no-brainer.
In most cases we can get a CO2 detector installed for less than $200. Give Premo Electric a call for a free estimate, and to find out how easy it can be to get total CO2 coverage for your home.
